Microsoft Surface Pro 5 Release Delayed Next Year To Prepare For Surface Phone Launch

| Mar 27, 2016 06:08 AM EDT

Surface Pro 5 is rumored to be released alongside Microsoft Surface Book 2 and the much-rumored Surface Phone, codenamed Panos Phone.

Microsoft Surface Pro 5 release is reportedly delayed in 2017 as the company will prepare for the launch of Surface Phone. The company does not want the hybrid to steal the spotlight from the Surface Phone.

It seems that Microsoft wants to make a dent in the smartphone business like in the laptop and tablet industry by releasing another Surface Phone later this year. Since the smartphone will battle against other companies' heavyweights, the Microsoft Surface Phone is a flagship handset boasting admirable specs and features.

According to The REM, the smartphone is expected to come with 8GB of RAM and a storage capacity of up to 500GB. The price starts at $700 up to $999. The device is also expected to pack productivity apps targeting professionals and businessmen. With this, Microsoft will take the path that BlackBerry paved for the business class.

Meanwhile, Microsoft Surface Pro 5 will be ready for a spring launch next year and will be announced alongside Surface Book 2. Another reason for the delay is the release of Windows 10 Redstone 2, which is also pushed back in early 2017.

Microsoft Surface Pro 5 and Surface Book 2 will come with 4K pixel resolution that will enable users to stream 4K video content on tablet. Surface Pro 5 will have a screen size of 13.3 inches, which is the common spec on most laptops.

Latest whispers claimed that the upcoming laptop-tablet hybrids will be powered of Intel's Skylake chipsets and reinforced by the second update of Windows 10 operating system.

Aside from Skylake processor from Intel and Redstone 2, the devices will reportedly pack an improved battery life, as the Surface Pro 4's battery juice is worth 5 hours and 15 minutes of videos. Microsoft promised 9 hours of playback last time; thus, it may go up to 7 hours of battery life.

The entry-level Surface Pro 5 running on Intel i5 will cost $899, while the laplet powered by i7 will cost $999 and $1,599 for an i7 Extreme. The price will go up based on storage and other features.

However, Microsoft has not announced any official information yet and consumers must wait for the updates.
