Xiaomi developing smartphone similar to Apple iPhone SE; iPhone SE features old technology but still powerful compared to others in its size range

Xiaomi is gearing up to go against Apple's new iPhone SE.

Apple recently confirmed their plans of releasing a brand new gadget to round-up their iPhone line. The tech giant has announced that their newest phone, the iPhone SE, would be available for purchase come March 31, 2016.

"iPhone SE is an exciting new idea - we started with a beloved, iconic design and reinvented it from the inside out" gushed by Apple's senior vice president of worldwide marketing Philip Schiller.

Apple has since released the new smartphone to a few tech insiders for them to review, and one of the lucky few is Mashable's Christina Warren. In her article published five days ago, Warren claimed that there truly is nothing new about the upcoming iPhone SE. It looks remarkable like the iPhone 5S and is equipped with the same technology as the newer iPhone releases. However, Warren revealed that despite that lack of innovation, the iPhone SE is still arguably the most powerful camera in its size range at present.

"I still prefer larger displays - and I don't see myself going back to the classic design - but this is a great device, especially at $400," said Warren.

There is significant excitement and fanfare surrounding the release; however, it seems like another smartphone manufacturer is gearing up to go against the iPhone SE.

Xiaomi, which is arguably one of the most popular phone brands from China at present, is rumored to have produced a device similar to Apple's upcoming device. An image of a Xiaomi smartphone has been circulating around Weibo, China's answer to Facebook, which can only be described as a smaller version of the Xiaomi Mi 5.

According to GizChina, the new Xiaomi phone will be equipped with a Snapdragon 820 processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of memory and a 13mega pixel camera. The device reportedly would go for 1799 yuan or $276 dollars.

Apple's iPhone SE pales in comparison with Xiaomi's speculated new smartphone release. Moreover, at $276 the Chinese brand phone is more than $100 cheaper than the iPhone SE.

To date, Xiaomi execs have yet to comment on the new smartphone rumors.
