'The Last of Us' is an action-adventure survival horror video game developed by Naughty Dog and published by Sony Computer Entertainment.

Recent news confirms that "The Last of Us 2" will not be happening anytime soon. A year ago, Nolan North, the voice of David in the game, reportedly caught noting that Naughty Dog (the game's developer) is developing a sequel for the post-apocalyptic franchise. However, according to North's latest statement with regards to the sequel, he emphasized that he did not, at any chance, confirmed that Naughty Dog is making "The Last of Us 2."

The popular voice-actor added that his statement regarding the game's possible sequel is a fan-based opinion. Meaning, he quoted "I know they're doing The Last of Us 2" as a fan, and not as an employee of the game's developer. North, who is obviously irritated hearing news about his unofficial confirmation of the game's sequel, said in an interview with Movie pilot earlier 2016 that he does not know anything about the plans of Naughty Dog with "The Last of Us," nor he officially confirmed that a sequel is on the table.

North's recent statement ended the fans' rumors about the release date of the sequel. As a result, supporters of the game are now back to the start where they, along with North, knows nothing no more.

There is a slight chance though that the game might be under development in secrecy, because the game's director, Neil Druckmann, said in his interview with PlayStation Magazine in 2015 that the team did conceptualized for the sequel's contents. Also, the fact that Naughty Dog did not deny a possible sequel should mean that there is a chance that fans will see "The Last of Us 2" in the near future.

Moreover, Naughty Dog was reportedly focusing on developing the final installment of the "Uncharted" game series, which is "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End." This could be the main reason why the company was not able to make a sequel for "The Last of Us."

As of the moment, Naughty Dog finally announced that they have finished developing "Uncharted 4," and that they are now on their way to release the game. Perhaps, this is good news for the fans of "The Last of Us," because the game's developer may now focus on creating a sequel.
