UFC 197 Jon Jones fight against the light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier has been cancelled because the latter has acquired an injury. According to the injured's camp, the cancellation came after discerning that the fighter will not be able to give Jones a competitive match.

Cormier's injury was first read on the BJPenn.com and was then confirmed by different sources that disclosed the cancellation of the schedule of the rematch on April 23. Nevertheless, Jones has already expressed his willingness to fight whoever the UFC will choose as his opponent.

Following this is the announcement from UFC President Dana White, confirming that Jones is still in the fighting card. they also added that he is going to go up against Ovince Saint Preux. The Jones-Preux match, which is going to be the main event of the night, is going to be for the interim title of light heavyweight, according to MMA Fighting

The 28-year old Comier, on the other hand, is a also a former champion in the light heavyweight division himself, who never actually lost a title in the Octagon. However, he was stripped off of the title due to several issues not related to the UFC sport, which he needed to deal with. His previous arrest and the succeeding charges filed against him following a hit-and-run accident last year were the grounds for losing the title.

Cormier was the UFC title holder for the light heavyweight division at the time of the arrest. The UFC was left with no choice but to remove the title from him, while suspending him as well for six months. During the entire period of his temporary break from the UFC and the mixed martial arts, Cormier had an opportunity to win the vacant title at the UFC 187 against Anthony Johnson, who was also the similar fight card where Jones was expected to defend his title.

On the other hand, Jones has long been waiting to have a rematch against Cormier, however, with the supposed oponent's injury, he will have to wait again, Blood Yelbow reported. The UFC light heavyweight championship held at the Baltimore Arena was where Jones won a match against Glover Texeira. Based from previous reports, Cormier is suffering from a shin injury.
