LG G2 users on Verizon network to get Android Marshmallow soon? Not coming for T-Mobile users

| Apr 06, 2016 08:36 AM EDT

Developed by LG Electronics, the LG G2 Android smartphone is a successor to 2012's Optimus G and the 2013 Optimus G Pro phablet.

Reports suggest that LG G2 users on the Verizon network carrier may get Android Marshmallow soon.

It was previously reported that LG is not planning to release the Android Marshmallow update for LG G2, as the device is now a few years old. However, a Verizon LG G2 was recently seen getting benchmarked, according to Motoring Crunch.

This sparked the speculation that hope is not dead for the LG G2 and they may still get the latest operating system update. However, network carrier Verizon has not released any schedule of when they are planning to release the update, but it is expected by April-end.

Meanwhile, analysts also feel that with the benchmarking sighting, it seems that the device is capable enough to support Android Marshmallow. Hence, some ROM developers may also go ahead and release a custom Android Marshmallow ROM update for LG G2, ahead of the official release.

It is also speculated that LG may skip the Android Marshmallow 6.0 update and instead release the latest Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 update for LG G2. The current LG flagship devices such as LG G3, LG G4 and LG G5 have already got the Android Marshmallow update.

In view of Verizon testing the Android Marshmallow update for LG G2, it is expected that the other network carriers may also follow suit. According to T-Mobile support page, the device is not listed among the smartphones, which the network carrier is testing for the operating system update. Hence, a T-Mobile Android Marshmallow update seems unlikely for LG G2.

Android Marshmallow is packed with numerous exciting features. Google has also released a fingerprint API, which gives developers the power to tap and make biometric authentication in their devices. This feature will also help the users to make online transactions in a more secure manner.

Speaking of online transactions, the support for Android Pay is also been incorporated with this upgrade. The users can quickly and securely buy stuff online or do their bank transactions without worrying about any threat of online fraud.
