Rockstar's decision to endeavor online has resulted into the increase of sales for "GTA 5." However, the game developer could be a victim of its own success since sales do not give the motivation to rush the release date for "GTA 6."
The company had earned approximately $500 million from micropurchases just by offering add-ons and other customizable features. According to Engadget, Rockstar's (online-and-off) crime simulator outsold last fall's big games like "Star War Battlefront," "Fallout 4," and Tom Clancy's "Rainbow Six: Siege." Furthermore, the game heavily beat "Lego Marvel Avengers" that came out in March and is at the bottom of the sales charts.
The success of "GTA Online" will possibly influence the release date of the next installment in the "Grand Theft Auto" franchise, N4BB noted. The good news is that Rockstar will likely not drop the offline sequel, "GTA 6," amid the successful online purchase model for the fifth installment in the series.
The latest information about "GTA 6" indicates that the highly anticipated game might come out together with the release of the equally much-awaited gaming consoles - PS5 and Xbox Two. However, fans of "GTA 6" will have to be patient for two to three years to lay hands on the game.
"GTA 6" is projected to release in 2018 based on how Rockstar has been releasing past titles. On the other hand, some analysts believe that there is a high chance that "GTA 6" will go back in time, although it is not clear how far back. Since the game is currently under development, it should not be long before developers at Rockstar unveil some information to the public concerning the upcoming installment.
Recently, there have been some rumors about the completion of the map-building stage for the next "GTA" title. Furthermore, there are speculations regarding a job position posted by Rockstar North soliciting for a mission or technical scripter. For this reason, it can be assumed that developers are in the process of revealing details for the new game.
While Rockstar has remained skeptical on releasing "GTA 6," it seems that the development of the game is progressing. Watch the sneak peek below for more information.
