It would take several months before fans can watch their favorite detective series, "Sherlock," on the small screen, which is why in order to keep the fans interest, the co-creator of the show, Mark Gatiss, who is also playing the role of the lead protagonist's brother Mycroft, has provided some behind-the-scenes images. This move by Gatiss is to boost the avid "Sherlock" supporters' excitement for the upcoming season, "Sherlock" season 4.
It was just a week ago (April 12), when Gatiss provided an image of Benedict Cumberbatch, who plays Sherlock Holmes, in an outfit that is quite the same to the one he wore on 2015's "Sherlock" Christmas special episode. The image on twitter has a caption of "Back! #Sherlock."
The co-creator is not done teasing the fans as he posted another photo on April 13, in which, the image shows Martin Freeman in his character Dr. John Watson, and was captioned "Back 2. #Sherlock."
Although Gatiss has been very busy alluring the fans with the behind the scenes images, he did not exposed details in regards to the storylines of the upcoming "Sherlock" season 4. In spite of this, fans can still trace some details when it comes to season 4's plot. One of which is that Dr. Watson is expected to become a father next season.
In addition, rumors points out that "Sherlock" season 4 could bring back the principal enemy of the lead protagonist. During last season's finale episode, Sherlock was able to defeat Charles Augustus Magnussen (played by Lars Mikkelsen), the person who did the terrorist attacks. This was the time when the mortal enemy of Sherlock Holmes, Moriarty (played by Andrew Scott) said "Did you miss me?" through a television broadcast.
A lot of speculations also lead to a possibility of Dr. Watson's wife, Mary, may die while giving birth to their first child, Heat World reported.
Nevertheless, there is still no confirmation from the executive producers on whether the rumor of Mary dying next season is true. Given that fact, fans should just wait for further news to arise in the coming months about "Sherlock" season 4.
