Group Chat appears as a distinct tab in the Facebook Messenger.

Facebook Messenger now features Group Calling feature that supports up to 50 people at a time. The group VoIP audio call service will boost app usage and add more people to complete Facebook's dream of making its messaging service a superstar.

Users of Facebook Messenger can now finally benefit from the most anticipated feature for which people previously looked to Skype, which is the group chat. To use the Group Calling feature, a user must tap open Phone icon and nominate their friends he wants to invite to the conversation and then invitees will get Messenger call simultaneously, Tech Crunch reported.

The Group Chat feature displays members who have and have not logged into the session, from where the hosting user can forward another ping to remind them to tune in. Previously, Facebook said that there was not limit on the size of the group, but in later updates on the tech site, those figures have changed to from 12 to a final 50.

Facebook Messenger's Group Calling feature can host a maximum fifty people at any given time. Facebook is already late on its promise to update its Messenger with QR codes and internal camera so by introducing the multi-chat, the social media company has secured the first place in the race of two against Snapchat.

Facebook launched VoIP calls back in 2013 that incorporated audio calls the following year. In 2015, Facebook had claimed 10 percent of all mobile VoIP calls made around the globe. The chatting app has already introduced payment, chatbots, and small games to keep the users entertained.

The Group Calling facility of the Facebook Messenger does not offer a multi-video exchange, The Verge clarified. With 900 plus users, it is the internet company's most marketable smartphone app next only to Whatsapp.

In short, Facebook's wants its Messenger to replace people's mobile phone numbers. Slowly and gradually, the company is moving towards that milestone and Group Calling just served as a decisive hit. Facebook Messenger is kind of a standalone app with powerful and evolving features that makes it stand tall in the messaging arena. The following CNET video talks more about the story.
