Google is believed to be working on the successors of Nexus 5x and Nexus 6 P, dubbed the HTC Nexus M1 and S1.

Several reports are claiming that Google is working on the successors of Nexus 5x and Nexus 6P, dubbed the HTC Nexus M1 and S1, which, according to multiple mobile analysts, could become the supreme devices of the year.

Rather than have Huawei and LG make them, Google purportedly hired HTC, the very company that made the well acclaimed Nexus One. Reports coming from multiple sources, who are usually in the know, confirm that the two Google Nexus 2016 handsets are allegedly in the works already.

According to BGR, if the HTC 10 is anything to go by, then HTC is undoubtedly capable of making impressive Android handsets. Also, if the Taiwanese company will manufacture the Nexus 2016 family, it is expected that the M1 and S1 will be slightly different from the previous ones made by Huawei and LG.

A pair of news from two different sources, Evan Blass and Android Police, separately pointed out some details about the upcoming Nexus devices. Blass posted on Twitter that HTC was making a pair of Android N handsets for Google, Nexus M1 and Nexus S1 internally.

At the same time, a source told the publication that the codenames of the two new Google devices are Marlin and Sailfish. Digging into the available code in an attempt of looking for evidence, the publication discovered that Sailfish is a peculiar choice for Google because it happens to be the name of a rival mobile operating system.

However, it cannot be ruled out because the company is known for using fish names for its Nexus devices. Additionally, considering that both the publications' and Blass' reports align, there could be a spec of truth.

For now, there are no valid pictures or specs of the forthcoming smartphones, but the possibility of HTC pushing its designs into the 2016 Nexus family, according to analysts, is exciting. Bearing in mind that the HTC 10 got reviews as one of the most powerful devices ever, and the fact that HTC's hardware designs are always iconic, then Nexus fans can envisage a supreme Nexus family this year.
