Google's self-driving car has successfuly logged over 1.5 million miles on the real roads

Google and Chrysler may be heading towards a possible partnership on the self-driving car. Both tech giants are reportedly passing through their final phases of the deal while neither company has officially approved these rumors.

Self-driving car mission may take a new twist for Google and Chrysler as a potential partnership on the autonomous cars is under discussions. Google is not an automobile manufacturer and but it has significantly advanced its self-driving mini-vehicle. However, to implement the technology in production cars, it needs the help of an automobile manufacturer, and Chrysler could be the choice, Wall Street Journal reported.

Back in December 2015, Google was rumored to have been conducting similar negotiations with Ford, but auto-industry analysts say that the Italian automaker may arise as a more fortunate partnership. Google's ties with Chrysler stretch back a few months and could be phasing through decisive stages.

Fiat Chrysler's CEO Sergio Marchionne believes that for industry leaders need a larger scale to get better profits on their investments and the company was open to joining hands with tech companies like Google or Apple, the magazine reported. So the automaker is seeking someone from the technology side to help them reduce development and production costs.

According to Washington Post, automotive analyst Karl Brauer said in an interview that automakers feel worried that their business model may not do very well in the next decade. Thus, it makes sense when tech and car enterprises wish to step into one another's territory. Google's partnership with Chrysler could prove very providential in this regard.

The marriage of automakers with technology companies is inevitable because the success of both businesses depends on it. A tech or automotive enterprise can participate in the race course, but its speed compared to joint ventures would be significantly slower.

Google is not directly involved in self-driving car project, the control now belongs to its parent company Alphabet. However, the company has been investing on its autonomous long before Alphabet came into being. After six years of hard work, the Google's driverless car has successfully logged over 1,500,000-mile run to test its AI's abilities in the real roads.

As of now, there is no word from Fiat Chrysler or Google about these talks. The following video elaborates more facts on this news.
