Telus & Bell release Android Marshmallow for Samsung Galaxy S5 and BlackBerry Priv

Shrugging off BlackBerry Priv’s, the company’s first Android phone, reported flop, BlackBerry will be unveiling three new BB smartphones on 2017.

Telus and Bell are releasing the Android Marshmallow update for the devices, Samsung Galaxy S5 and BlackBerry Priv. Both the devices have started receiving the update from May 3, Tuesday.

Network carrier Telus is rolling out the Android Marshmallow update for BlackBerry Priv in a gradual manner. Users can check their devices to see if they are eligible for the update by going to Settings> About Device> Software Update. The Android Marshmallow update is also available to all the users residing in the United States, the United Kingdom and France.

On the other hand, according to Android Central, network carrier Telus has also started the release of the Android Marshmallow update in a phased manner, for its users who are using Samsung Galaxy S5. The update is around 800 MB in size, so it is recommended to download it via a stable Wi-Fi network.

Furthermore, network carrier Bell is releasing the Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 update for its Samsung Galaxy S5 users. All the Canadian users are expected to get it by the end of May.

Initially, the Android Marshmallow update for Samsung Galaxy S5 users had commenced its rollout in South Korea. It was available for all the users of network carriers SK Telecom, LG Uplus and KT in South Korea. Later, the update spread to countries like Sri Lanka, Germany, the U.S., Italy, India and Holland.

Moreover, Samsung Galaxy S5 with model number SM-G900F got the update in Sri Lanka, Italy and Trinidad and Tobago. In India, the Samsung Galaxy S5 which started receiving the Android Marshmallow update had the model number SM-G900I. On the other hand, in the U.S., network carriers Sprint and T-Mobile have rolled out the update for their Samsung Galaxy S5 users.

Meanwhile, BlackBerry Priv was launched with Android Lollipop out of the box and it is upgradable to Android Marshmallow. The latest operating system brings numerous changes to the device and also enhances the security of BlackBerry Priv. It has numerous additional usability features, such as the Doze mode and the Standby Mode, which increase the battery life, according to BGR.
