‘Sons of Anarchy’ prequel: 'SoA' spinoff in the works; Charlie Hunnam reprises role as Jax Teller in ‘Sons of Anarchy’ spinoff?

“Sons of Anarchy” prequel may run until 10 to 12 episodes, beginning with how John Teller and Piney's relationship developed in Vietnam.

"Sons of Anarchy" has been picked up for a spinoff series focusing on the Hispanic biker gang called Mayans, which were predominantly featured in the original show. The big question being asked around is whether the main star Charlie Hunnam will reprise his role as Jax Teller in the upcoming spinoff.

"Sons of Anarchy" creator Kurt Sutter spoke to Deadline about how he was able to spend a lot of time with Hunnam in London while filming "The Bastard Executioner." Sutter also expressed his desire to work with the actor again.

Talking about the proposed "Sons of Anarchy" spinoff, Sutter said, "I casually said I'd be open to doing something with the Mayans. It's the same [biker] subculture, but it'd be interesting to see the influences of that culture and how it impacts the subculture we already understand."

FX Network CEO John Landgraf also revealed that Sutter had begun working on the "Sons of Anarchy" prequel.

Although nothing has been confirmed yet at this point, it appears that the possibility of Jax appearing in the spinoff seems low. If the spinoff is to take place after the events of "Son of Anarchy," there is no chance Jax could appear. If the spinoff would run parallel with the original series' timeline, that ups the stake for a Jax comeback. However, Hunnam's filming schedule is currently packed, as he is slated to film four movies in the next months.

Nevertheless, fans of Hunnam will be happy to know that he has confirmed his appearance in Houston's Space City Comic Con on May 27 to 29. It will be a reunion of sorts for the cast of "Sons of Anarchy," with majority of the stars already scheduled to appear.

"They've said 'yes' they want to come; they're excited. Their problem is that they're scouting locations for their new series, they don't know their schedule yet; their schedule changes day by day," Space City promoter George Comits told Houston Press.

Meanwhile, Sutter also talked about a separate "Sons of Anarchy" prequel. He hinted that it might run until 10 to 12 episodes, beginning with how John Teller and Piney's relationship developed in Vietnam. The show would then transition to their homecoming in the United States and the creation of the club.
