After acquiring mobile email management app Acompli, it has been reported that the Windows giant has bought the calendar app Sunrise, Tech Crunch reported. The amount for the purchase has yet to be confirmed though it is rumored that the deal is around $100 Million USD.

The Sunrise calendar app offers various products that are suitable for desktop and mobile devices, NDTV reported. The users will have no problem syncing their calendar activities across multiple operating systems and platforms.

Currently, the calendar app is available for Android devices, iPhone and iPad and can be downloaded in both Google Play store and Mac App store. It is said that the app can also be used as a web client.

Users can access the app through multiple platforms such as iCloud, Google, Microsoft Exchange and other various apps, in which, its interconnectivity has made the calendar app popular. It is said that this is probably the reason why Microsoft has been keen in acquiring this calendar app.

It seems that tech giant is now pursuing a strategy of acquiring apps and technology that supports its tech rivals namely, Apple and Google. It can be noted that recently, Microsoft released a touch version of its Office application - for the Apple iOS. It is interesting to note that iOS Office version came out before the Windows 10 version.

Despite the purchase, Microsoft intends to let the Sunrise calendar app remain as a stand-alone app.  It will probably utilize the Sunrise technology it acquired to developed apps of its own.  After Microsoft bought Accompli, it soon offered its Outlook version for the Android and Apple iOS.

The twin acquisition of Acompli and Sunrise clearly indicates that the Windows Company intends to corner a big market share on mobile productive apps, in order to replace its dwindling desktop Office base.

Both Microsoft and Sunrise declined to comment about the reported sale.  Sunrise was started in 2012 and was able to convince various investors to contribute a capital of around $8.2 Million USD.
