"The Originals" season 4 has already been confirmed by The CW and now, the network just announced that it will have a much later premiere date.
Typically, "The Originals" air around the same time "The Vampire Diaries" premieres, but this time around, the former has been moved back to have a midseason premiere.
The CW president Mark Pedowitz recently told TV Line at a conference call this week that "The Originals" season 4 has been moved back because when they plotted their schedule for 2016 to 2017, the were only left with 10 more hours to spare.
"We have a very strong schedule. We still believe quite a bit in 'The Originals.' We have only 10 hours, so we made a choice to hold it to further boost our schedule at midseason," he explained.
Meanwhile, Pedowitz's decision to make use of the phrase "a bit" has led fans to speculate that "The Originals" could be in danger of being axed after season 4.
A few weeks ago, executive producer Julie Plec said that even though "The Vampire Diaries" could be cancelled after season 8, "The Originals" will be here to stay for a few more seasons.
In other news, Pedowitz slammed rumors that "The Vampire Diaries" will be cancelled at the end of the upcoming season.
According to the network president, his dream is for the Ian Somerhalder-starrer to go on for more seasons in the future.
"No decision has been made one way or the other. My dream is it isn't the final season," he said.
Meanwhile, fans have expressed their thoughts about "The Originals'" upcoming move to a winter premiere.
One fan @Jake wrote, "I am so sorry but it is time for 'The Originals' and 'TVD' to go. The storylines are a stretch and the same thing over and over... I am not sad that 'The Originals' is being delayed."
@Dave, on the other hand, believes that "The Vampire Diaries" and not "The Originals" should be cancelled.
"I agree with 'TVD' however I find myself liking 'The Originals' a lot over last few episodes. The season started off a bit weak. And I really hope they don't have a crazy cliffhanger because it's going to be a long wait."
