Lee Min Ho to take on alternative civilian service in lieu of military enlistment

The Heirs, also known as The Inheritors, is a South Korean television series starring Lee Min-ho, Park Shin-hye and Kim Woo-bin.

Lee Min Ho, who gained widespread fame with "Boys Over Flowers" as Gu Jun Pyo in 2009, will not be enlisting in the military at any point in the near future. Instead, the 28-year-old Hallyu star is poised to take on an alternative civilian service.

There are several local newsstand who reported that Lee will fill in as a non-military service worker as opposed to enlisting in the Army. The exact enlistment date remains unknown.

"[Lee Min Ho] will serve as a public service officer, regardless of when he decides to begin his military service," a representative from his agency, MYM Entertainment, said in a statement obtained by Soompi. "We are conceding at an early time next year."

The representative went ahead to reveal the reason behind why the actor decides not to be enlisted as an active duty soldier. It was learned that Lee got involved in a serious car accident in 2006, which required the insertion of metal bars into his fractured leg that was later removed to improve his acting in numerous' stunt scenes.

Lee was therefore given a prohibition from the common military service when he was involved in another car accident in 2011 amid the filming of romance-thriller TV drama "City Hunter." It was reported that the vehicle he was in was somewhat annihilated.

The mandatory military service applies to all South Korean males aged 18-35 years old. In fact, many celebrities have completed the 2-year military service throughout the years, including So Ji Sub, Seo Ji Seok, Ji Sung, Hyun Bin, Jung Ki Hoon aka Rain, Song Joong Ki and among others.

Meanwhile, speculations are rife that Lee will take part in a new drama series together with veteran actress Jun Ji Hyun as the female lead. The said drama will be written by screenwriter Park Ji Eun, who is credited for the 2013-2014's massive pan-Asia hit drama "My Love From The Star."

Although nothing has been officially set in stone, the Hallyu star beforehand mentioned that his next TV drama series would seemingly be his last before enlistment. Nonetheless, Lee will make his next big screen appearance on June 9, along with Chinese actress Tiffany Tang, Karena Ng, Wallace Chung, Jones Xu and Louis Fan, in the forthcoming Chinese action film called "Bounty Hunters," Variety reported.
