NVIDIA SHIELD TV used to demonstrate Comcast's Xfinity TV app during INTX 2016

The NVIDIA SHIELD TV is still in the box

NVIDIA SHIELD TV users would be glad to know that the Xfinity TV app will be available for their devices as it was already demonstrated at the recent Internet and Television Expo or INTX.

Currently, viewers would have to have a Comcast set-top box in order to use their Xfinity TV service. Comcast has demonstrated at INTX the Xfinity TV app that would work with the NVIDIA SHIELD device without the need for the set-top box in the first place.

The setup has already been available for some users who want to stream content from HBO Now and Hulu without having to lease a set-top box. Comcast demonstrated the possibilities for their streaming app at the INTX 2016 conference.

Users who have an NVIDIA SHIELD TV would finally be able to use the Xfinity TV app to stream shows and movies from the Xfinity TV Partner program, Android Police reported. It would be similar to just using Netflix on a smartphone or a smart TV.

Samsung was the launch partner for the Xfinity TV Partner program. It is expected that their roster of smart TVs with UHD and 4K resolutions would be able to run the new app as well in the near future.

Unfortunately, the app is not yet available for the public to download. There is still the possibility that Comcast will release the Xfinity TV app for the NVIDIA SHIELD TV soon considering that they have already demonstrated it, Android Headlines reported.

Comcast has also used other devices to demonstrate their new app. They have also used a Roku 4 and a Samsung Smart TV.

Other Android TV devices could also see the app in the future. It does make sense as the app is geared for viewers who want to watch TV shows and films on their devices.

"Comcast is demoing their Xfinity app running on SHIELD at INTX 2016. We're working with Comcast but have nothing to announce at this time," said an NVIDIA representative.

Since both parties are not denying nor confirming the news, it could mean that the possibility for the Xfinity TV app for the NVIDIA SHIELD TV is huge. Users could still wait for several weeks and months before the app is released.
