The Motorola 2nd Gen, not the Moto X 2016, can be seen in an official image.

Moto X 2016 release is reportedly happening on June 9 in Motorola's official launching event under a new name - Moto Z.

According to Venture Beat, the Lenovo's subsidiary is changing things up in the upcoming Moto X 2016 release based on the spotted marketing materials.

Motorola is reportedly working on at least two flagship devices, including a pair of 5.5-inchers codenamed Vertex and Vector Thin. Vector Thin, the more premium handset, will be known as the Moto Z Style, while Vertex will apparently be dubbed Moto Z Play.

According to GottaBeMobile, Moto Z or Moto X 2016 features include a new design. Motorola reportedly shifted to an all metal or aluminum frame, to better compete with Samsung, HTC, Apple and even LG. Consumers will also have the option to customize their handsets via MotoMaker.com.

A model in the Moto Z line will pack a 1080p HD display, Snapdragon 625 8-core processor, 2GB of RAM, and be just 5.5mm thin. The camera received a major overhaul as well, which has been the weakest link in the Moto lineup for years.

The report added that Moto X 2016 will also boast fingerprint sensor, stereo speakers, battery cases, camera cases with a big lens, a pico projector and more. The leaked photo of the device also showed front facing camera and LED flash for improved selfies, a large cutout for the USB Type-C charging port, and a huge chin with a lot of bezel on bottom before the fingerprint scanner.

However, there is no official confirmation from Lenovo or Motorola regarding the Moto X 2016 release and features.
