Microsoft Surface Phone is rumored to be running with Windows 10.

According to new reports, Microsoft's Surface Phone will come packed with Intel's Atom processor. Microsoft Surface Pro 5 is rumored to be powered by Kaby Lake processor.

The Atom processor is stalled now. In April, the chipmaker Intel declared to cut 12,000 jobs that account for 11% of the workforce. An Intel spokesperson said that the company has cancelled the development of the Atom processor for mobile devices.

Reports also suggest that the chipmaker may discontinue its Atom X5 chip lineup.

The Surface Phone must run apps useful to businesses or legacy apps, based on Win32 architecture.
Processors such as Snapdragon 808 cannot run legacy apps. Therefore, the Redmond giant needs to figure out another processor capable of running the  new smartphone to make it useful to businesses. Some reports indicate that the upcoming Snapdragon 830 SoC will power the Surface Phone.

It is believed that Microsoft will reveal the upcoming smartphone in three different variants. Microsoft will place the three models at different price points to cater to a wider market.

The upcoming device may come with support for Microsoft Pen technology and Continuum. It is expected that the Surface Phone will feature a 5.5-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels.

There are speculations that the forthcoming device will be as powerful as a modern day PC. According to a report from Digital Trends, the Microsoft Surface Phone will be released in April 2017.

Meanwhile, some reports suggest that the upcoming Microsoft Surface Pro 5 will be released in June. Other reports say that the tablet will be launched in October.

Microsoft Surface Pro 4 is powered by Intel's sixth-generation Skylake processors, CNET reported. If reports are anything to go by, Microsoft Surface Pro 5 will be powered by Kaby Lake processor.

Rumors are doing the rounds that the upcoming Microsoft device will sport a 4K Ultra HD screen with 3,840 x 2,160 pixel resolution. The tech company is also developing a Surface Pen with a rechargeable battery.

According to reports, the Surface Pro 5 will get a powerful battery. As the company has begun introducing the USB Type-C port in its smartphone releases, the Pro 5 is likely to get the USB Type-C port when launched.
