'Sword Art Online' movie update: New details for 'Ordinal Scale' to be revealed at Anime Expo 2016; 'SAO' season 3 to launch first before the anime film?

Sword Art Online is a Japanese light novel series written by Reki Kawahara and illustrated by abec as the story takes place in a near future and focuses on virtual reality MMORPG.

The latest details for "Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale" will feature an appearance at the Anime Expo 2016 and "SAO" season 3 to launch first before the anime film.

Aniplex America announced that they will be hosting the "Sword Art Online" festival this year during the Anime Expo 2016 event in Los Angeles to celebrate the anime's upcoming movie "Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale" which will launch next year.

The "Sword Art Online" festival will start on July 2 which is the second day of the Anime Expo at the Petree Hall and the event will include a number of important guest within the "SAO" anime which includes the English dub cast Bryce Papenbrook (Kirito), Cherami Leigh (Asuna), Cassandra Lee Morris (Leafa), Stephanie Sheh (Yui), Michelle Ruff (Sinon), Ben Diskin (Death Gun), Christine Cabanos (Silica), Sarah Williams (Lisbeth), Patrick Seitz (Agil), Kirk Thornton (Klein) and Erica Mendez (Yuuki) along with Alex Von David (ADR Script Writer/Director) as the events main MC.

In addition, Aniplex will also be bringing some secret guest and a big announcement regarding "Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale", AnimeNewsNetwork reported. It is unknown yet what kind of details will they present for "Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale" as fans might be expecting a new trailer or a possible release date for the anime movie.

"Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale" will take place four years after the "SAO" game incident as a new VRMMORPG called "Ordinale Scale" has emerge along with a new NerveGear device called "Augma" which is exclusive only for the game. It does not have a full-dive function from the previous devices, however, its AR function is greatly enhanced to compensate for it and can transmit visual, audio and tactual sensation data to players while they are awake, thus enabling the users to enjoy fitness and health management.

Kirito and his friends Asuna, Lisbeth,Silica, Sinon and Klein will embark in another journey as gamers who are playing "Ordiinal Scale" will have them raising their rank by collecting items that appear in various places in the real world or defeating monsters.

The ranking system features of the game are indicated by an ordinal number instead of a cardinal number. As a result, high ranking players have overwhelming power and often rank has become a major factor in deciding the outcome of a PvP battles.

With "Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale" launching in Japan next year, anime fans are wondering if "Sword Art Online" season 3 will launch first before the anime film?

Previous reports claim that "SAO" season 3 could launch in the summer as the possible plot details will likely be based on the "Alicization" arc or the "Progressive" novels in the SAO Subreddit page.

"Sword Art Online" anime producer Shinichiro Kashiwada stated that he would like to do the "Alicization" arc for season 3 since it has not been adapted in the show. However, Kashiwada stated that "Progressive" novels could be featured in season 3, thus anime fans might see both story soon.

"Sword Art Online: Oridinal Scale" will launch in Japanese cinemas sometime on 2017.
