It has been months already since the news for a Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole album collaboration hit the internet. Rumors that the collaboration has been further delayed is because of the latter's involvement in legal matters.
J. Cole is facing a lawsuit filed against him because of allegedly copying the 1975 song "Don't You Want to Stay" by Bill Withers which Cole used as his own song title. But despite this news, Cardo said in his interview with Complex that the collaboration album between the two artists is still possible.
The music producer shared his experience working with Cole and how he was able to meet him, even mentioning that he is a huge fan of the rapper. He even added that as if his talk with Cole was one of his "dopest" moments.
During his interview, Cardo said that he was able to connect with the rapper while working with his guy named Matt. This Matt told him that Cole needs some beats and ends up giving Cole's number to him. Cardo further said that his conversation with the artist lasted for around 30 minutes talking about music and other related stuff. He went on telling that their conversation ended when Cole asked him copy of some files, which he ends up sending to the artist.
On the other hand, Cardo revealed during the interview that Kendrick Lamar is the type of artist who does not want sitting on his projects and likes to have the job done as soon as possible. He explained, that Lamar is the type of artist who wants his craft to be heard right away with people. It can be recalled that Cardo previously worked with Lamar on his "Untitled Unmastered" album.
With that said, it can be assumed that the album collaboration is already on going right now. It just seems that both parties of Lamar and Cole does not want to divulge any information as of the moment. According to Morning Ledger, Lamar and Cole have already worked on some collaborations before like "Forbidden Fruit" on Cole's "Born Sinner" album.
