Samsung recently launched the first ever tablet with an Iris recognition functionality. Reports say that the device is now available in both government and corporate institutions in India.
According to the announcement on the website of Samsung, the tech giant company said that the device was made with high level of security, knowing that the device will authenticate through scanning the retina of a person. It was also reported that the Samsung Galaxy Tab Iris was designed to fit the security requirements of institutions involve in finances and governance in India, as the device can be utilized using the Aadhar Authentication by the Unique Identification Authority of India or UIDAI.
Samsung Galaxy Tab Iris is a 7 inch capacitive tablet that runs on a 1.2 Ghz Quadcore processor under the Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system. It has a 5-megapixel autofocus rear camera, a 1.5 gigabyte random access memory and an 8 gigabyte internal storage capacity, with a microSD card slot upgradable to 200 gigabyte. Galaxy Tab Iris weighs 327 grams, and has a battery capacity of 3,600mAh.
Meanwhile, after the Samsung Galaxy Tab Iris was made available to the Indian corporate and government institutions, reports say that critics said the device is quite ordinary, and that it does not offer a high caliber type of gadget, GSM Arena reported. The report added that the device is quite similar with the company's 2014 Galaxy Tab 3 Lite.
Reports say that the price of Samsung Galaxy Tab Iris is about US$200 dollars. As of the moment, the device is said to be only available for government offices and financial institutions in India.
With regards to its availability to regular consumers, the company has not yet released a confirmation about the matter. Despite of that, some people are speculating that in a couple of days or weeks, Samsung may finally reveal a release date of the first ever retina scanner tablet, Samsung Galaxy Tab Iris.
