"Game of Thrones" actor Kit Harington, 29, recently claimed that male actors and television personalities, including him, also suffer from the same form of sexism just like their female counterparts. However, he is upset about how the matter is not highlighted in case of men at all.
Confessing himself to be a victim of demeaning sexism, the "Testament of Youth" actor claimed in an interview with The Times that the condition of the male actors is similar to what their female counterparts have encountered in their lives. The actor plays Jon Snow on the "Games of Thrones," one of the viewers' all-time favorite television series.
Harington further said that he has felt demeaning sexism surround him, particularly during the photo shoots where he is often asked to take off his shirt. The British actor clearly complained of women objectification being condemned in the industry, but the same not happening in the case of men who work in the same industry.
"I like to think of myself as more than a head of hair or a set of looks. It's demeaning," Harington said during the interview. "Yes, in some ways you could argue I've been employed for a look I have. But there's a sexism that happens towards men."
Apart from topless photo shoots, the actor has already been involved in a sex scene on the "Game of Thrones," where he was portrayed naked. The actor has been a part of the show since 2011.
Apart from talking about the impact of sexism on make artists and actors in the industry and the need to acknowledge it, Harington expressed his certain other wishes. He wished that the "Game of Thrones" never comes to an end and regarded the show as one of the important parts of his twenties.
The actor, who has been in an on-and-off relationship with his "Game of Thrones" co-star Rose Leslie, also stars in Martin Koolhoven's upcoming thriller "Brimstone." The actor replaced Robert Pattinson in June 2015, according to Hollywood Life. Pattinson who was initially selected for Harington's role. The film is set to release in 2016 in the US, however, the actual release date has not been officially announced.
