The big reveal about the cryptic "hatch" the WWE was teasing ended up being Bill Goldberg, who will be a part of the upcoming WWE 2K17 video game. It led to a lot of rumors that Goldberg is returning to WWE but both sides are reportedly still not in good terms.
Many fans were speculating that the "hatch" will lead to the return of Bray Wyatt and The Wyatt Family or the much-anticipated debut of Finn Balor. However, it ended up being Goldberg coming out of the "hatch" and it was announced that he is available to play in WWE 2K17.
The latest installment of the wrestling video game is already available for pre-order at the online WWE Shop. It will be released sometime in October and it is available for consoles such as Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.
According to Cageside Seats, the relationship between the former WCW star and the WWE is not yet good but it will likely lead to better negotiations. Goldberg appearing on a WWE product is a good starting point for both parties involved.
It is not unusual that a former WWE superstar, who had a bad relationship with the company after they left, is close to returning. Stars like The Ultimate Warrior, Bruno Sammartino and Bret Hart were able to bury the hatchet and appear again with the WWE.
Goldberg last wrestled for the WWE in 2004 at WrestleMania 20 in New York City. His match against Brock Lesnar with Stone Cold Steve Austin as the guest referee was one of the worst matches ever as both superstars knew they were leaving that night and did not put in any effort to make it entertaining.
The 49-year-old has also blasted his former employers several times in the past but he recently opened up about returning to WWE. In an interview with The Ringer Wrestling Podcast, Goldberg revealed that appearing on WWE 2K17 is a start but he only did it for his son. Whatever happens next is not something he was willing to discuss.
"I initially just want to put a smile on my son's face and show him what his daddy used to do, ripping guy's heads off. If it leads to something like that then I... I don't know, man," Goldberg said.
