Bethesda has announced at E3 2016 that they will be making the Doom 2016 game free to play for a week as part of their promotion for the reboot.

One caveat is that the free Doom promotion will only last a week after tonight. In addition, only the first level of the game will be available for those availing of the free demo.

The game has seen a successful launch but some people just do not have the cash to buy the game outright for their own enjoyment. Bethesda is now giving them a chance to see what it would be like to play the game if they had bought it.

Doom's first level will be free to play for a week on the PlayStation 4, the Xbox One and for the PC through Steam, Engadget has learned. The company said that they are doing it as a tribute to how the earlier PC games have promoted their titles through shareware demos.

Those who have already spent all of their money on the new GTX 1070 and GTX 1080 cards from NVIDIA can now try to benchmark their gaming rigs without having to buy the game itself. Almost all of the reviews online feature benchmark data of the OpenGL game.

Besides the free one-week one-level demo, there is also another big announcement from the company. Bethesda announced the new "Unto the Evil" multiplayer DLC for Doom, PlayStation LifeStyle reported.

Three new maps will be included in the paid DLC. It will also feature a new demon enemy called The Harvester as well as more taunts and weapons for players to mess around with.

Doom 2016 will also get new multiplayer modes that id Software developed. They will come with the new "Sector" and "Exodus" modes that will be featured in the updates of the game.

All of the free updates will be rolled out this summer with no definite release date yet. The Unto the Evil DLC will be a paid version though.

Doom will be available for free play with one level on the PC, Xbox One and PS4 in a couple of hours. The official demo period will last for one week.
