Uber launches rewards program with Capital One

Uber has partnered with Capital One to give some of their mutual customers' free rides through their new rewards program.

The program will reward users with a ride worth up to $15 for free after they take nine Uber rides paid with a Capital One Quicksilver or QuicksilverOne card until March 2017.

According to Slash Gear, the reward tracking function is made available directly within the Uber mobile app. Rides paid with the Capital One card and the number of free rides required will be displayed. This is done through the app's new Payment Rewards "experience".

While the experience is currently limited to Capital One, Uber hopes the promotion will expand to other payments services in the future.

The new Uber partnership under the company's Payment Rewards program comes at a time when the company is increasingly seeing more competition from Lyft and other ride-hailing services.

Such changes will highly be evident on how credit card companies convinces their consumers to choose their card over their competitor's, The Stashed reported.

Recently, Uber been experimenting and rolling out different types of loyalty schemes, and this is not the first time the company has collaborated with third parties to do it.

In May, the company launched Uber Offers, which gives users rebates of between $5 and $20 at Uber when they do their shopping at participating outlets.

Just weeks later, Uber started to run a test in LA where users received free rides after they accumulated a certain number of points from previous rides. The incentive appeared to work out in one free ride in every 15, so a little less rewarding than Payment Rewards.

Following this new Payment Rewards program, Quicksilver cardholders have even more reason to Uber everywhere all Summer 16.

So rather than immediately run out and apply for a Capital One card, Uber loyalists might want to wait and see whether a card already in their wallets is brought onboard as an Uber rewards partner.
