Baidu Launches Stock Analysis Finance App

The name Baidu was derived from the title of a poem written 800 years ago. It means "search for the ideal."

Baidu is set to launch a stock analysis finance app. App users can enjoy features such as stock and market prediction to assist them in their investment activities.

Chinese search engine giant Baidu Inc. is behind a new app that would make it easier for investors to make wise decisions over their equities trading activities.

The app would use artificial intelligence to demonstrate how certain stocks, markets or sectors are likely to perform so that investors can make their decisions more judiciously.

"Baidu StockMaster gives ordinary small stock investors access to powerful big data analytics to help them evaluate stocks on the Chinese markets, as well as the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and U.S. bourses," the company announced on Tuesday.

The app makes use of artificial intelligence to analyze news and present predictions to the ordinary investors. The app also uses market data and Baidu's own search engine data to make more accurate predictions regarding the possible movements and changes in certain stocks, sectors and markets. What the app does not purport to do, however, is to recommend stocks. This is still a decision left to the investors.

Baidu recognizes what it could offer to the ordinary stock investor: priceless information.

"This is just the sort of sector--where access to information is unequal, putting the small investor at a disadvantage and creating inefficiencies--where Baidu can really add value," the firm stated in an email.

As it currently stands, the product will not generate revenue for the company. However, the company could turn the app into a trading terminal in the future should it receive a brokerage license.
