HP recently introduced Elite X2 1012, its 2 in 1 convertible device that can be used as a tablet or as an ultra book.

HP recalls laptop batteries with fire and burning hazard. The company decided to recall batteries that were shipped with laptops during March 2013 and August 2015 or sold as replacements.

HP decided to let the users know about the possible risk of fire on June, 14 and asked them to remove the batteries and use the laptop using an external charger. Overheating was reported in many cases, prior to this.

The range of laptop batteries affected includes HP ProBook, HP ENVY, Compaq, Compaq Presario, and HP Pavilion Notebook computers. Checking is available for all the batteries, online.

In a statement issued by the company, HP urged, "Because these batteries pose a fire and burn hazard, it is extremely important for customers to check whether their batteries are affected, and to cease use of affected batteries immediately."

HP not only mentioned that the batteries sold without laptops can be endangered but it also admitted that other replacements and accessories can well be defective. Customers can return them too.

The company has created a page for the purpose of HP battery recall. The customers have to visit the page, fill up the form provided and validate the details. This will tell them if their batteries are faulty. In case, the customers find their battery to be faulty, the company will provide a replacement, free of cost.

The company suggested customers, to go through the validation process and check manually to find if the battery is faulty. Though the company has already mentioned some computer models, all are not affected.

The process for companies or individuals with more than 10 affected batteries will be slightly different, Slash Gear pointed out. This process is applicable for individuals as well as the companies. In that case, email addresses are provided to contact for bulk checking and replacement. The addresses can be found in the FAQ section of the company.

The company says it is doing its best to replace the batteries at the earliest. The customers can check the shipment status once they send the faulty battery back. For those who have not faced any issue with the battery till now, fault checking is strongly encouraged by the HP battery recall team.
