Local police are investigating a shooting inside a Walmart store in Iuka, Mississippi that left the gunman dead and a police officer injured.
The Tishomingo County Sheriff's Office said the shooting occurred while the store was still closed. There isn't that much information yet with regard to the incident, Reuters reported.
Law enforcement identified the dead suspect as a local. Howard Brent Means, Jr., 34, of Tishomingo. He was killed after he opened fired on Iuka police that went to arrest him around 6:00 p.m. Sunday, according to WLOV News.
One of the police officers was grazed by a bullet during the exchange of fire. None of the law enforcers were killed, however. The injured policeman was rushed to a local hospital for immediate treatment. He was later released.
The Walmart store remained closed for further investigation by the police. The Iuka police disclosed that the dead suspect will be autopsied at Jackson City, the county seat of Madison County.
Iuka is about 100 miles southwest of Nashville, Tennessee.
