North Carolina Police confirmed three students were shot to death over a parking dispute near a university at Chapel Hill campus in NC. Three students namely, Deah Shaddy Barakat, 23, his wife, Yusor Abu-Salha, 21, and her wife's sister Razan Abu-Salha, 19-years old, of Raleigh.
Craig Stephen Hicks, 46, is facing first degree murder charges on killing the three university students in an apartment complex just outside the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill campus, Voice of America reported.
The father of the slain Abu-Salha sisters, Mohammad Abu-Salha, stated that he believes that this is not a simple parking dispute but rather a hate crime. The sisters have complained to him previously about the suspect which leads him to believe that this has something to do about their being Muslims.
Hicks would pick on Barakat and his daughters because of their religious beliefs and outfits and would talk to them with his gun in his belt. The killings were execution style, one bullet on each head. The victims' families believe this incident has to do with hate, according to CNN.
The newly-wed and the bride's younger sister have received previous threats from Hicks on an earlier scenarios, but they never thought he would get this far.
Linda Sarsour, the family spokesperson, disclosed that the three have been getting threats before but they have no idea what the earlier threats were about.
Hicks' wife was shocked to hear the news and sent her sincere condolences to the victims' family.
