'Final Fantasy VII Remake' is an upcoming video game remake, developed and published by Square Enix, of the original 1997 PlayStation role-playing video game by Square.

Game director Yoshinori Kitase teased back in 2015 that "Final Fantasy 7 Remake" will have a bigger story than the original "Final Fantasy VII." The director as well said that the game will be released in multiple parts.

In a statement via Square Enix official blog, the director said that when it comes to "Final Fantasy 7 Remake," the development team has a chance to go beyond the story, world, and experience of "Final Fantasy VII." According to Kitase, the multi-part format will enable them to expand the original story and make it epical for avid fans and new players alike.

It was initially believed that the forthcoming remake for PS4 would be the single, largest video game ever. However, the director's statement hinted that "Final Fantasy 7 Remake" might not release in one installment after all.

"The biggest reason why we haven't done a remake until now is because it's a massive undertaking to reconstruct 'Final Fantasy VII' from the ground up with the current technology," Kitase added. "Producing a proper HD remake of 'Final Fantasy VII' that maintains the same feeling of density of the original would result in a volume of content that couldn't possibly fit into one instalment."

In a recent interview with Game Informer, Kitase made it clear that the upcoming remake will be launched episodically. While many fans were initially confused by the remake's multi-part nature, the director said that the objective is to design it more like "Final Fantasy XIII."

When the remake finally releases, it will be a full-scale game for each episode. With "Final Fantasy XIII," each part told a story from a different perspective. Kitase added that it was like approaching an unknown territory is a sense.

With regard to "Final Fantasy 7 Remake," the team already has a pre-existing story. Therefore, it would be irrational not to encompass the game in a multi-part series.

While the remake will be launched in multiple episodes, it is unclear how many episodes the development team will come up with. Fans should remain patient to get more updates as soon as they are released by Square Enix.
