A man is checking his Apple Watch and syncing it with his iPhone at a store.

Apple watch 2 release date is reportedly in September with major updates like a front-facing camera with Face Time and a built-in GPS.

It was expected that the Cupertino-based firm would announce the Apple Watch 2 at the company's press event, which was held on March 21. However, nothing was mentioned about the smartwatch even at the WWDC 2016.

Although there is no mention about a specific launch date of the Apple Watch 4, the next-gen watch is likely to release alongside the iPhone 7, this year, DigiTimes reported. Another report strongly hints that the Apple Watch release is in September, according to Barry Lam, the chairman of Quanta.

It should be noted that Quanta manufactured the first set of Apple Watches back in 2015, so it is expected to manufacture the next version of the Apple Watch. Lam reportedly made a recent announcement that there will be limited stock of the next-gen Watch by the end of Quarter 2 this year. However, more stocks will be available in Quarter 3.

Going by the analysis of Brian White from Drexel Hamilton, the next version of Apple Watch will be almost 20 to 40 percent thinner than its predecessor. If the feature turns out true, the Watch 2 will feature a new microLED screen, instead of the OLED screen that you saw in the earlier version.

It should be noted that if the microLED screen in the Watch 2 is likely to push its price as the technology is quite expensive that is meant to boost a longer battery life. Apart from boasting this new feature, the Apple Watch 2 is expected to come with a Workout App and GPS technology.

Unlike its elder sibling, the new Watch iteration will be less dependable on an iPhone, thus making it more independent. Reports also suggest that the device will possibly have an advanced level of waterproofing protection. Swimmers will be happy to know that the inclusion of Workout app in the watch will allow them to track their swimming activities, MacRumors has learned.

Here is everything that you want to know about the Apple Watch 2 release date and specifications in this video.
