Gennady Golovkin next fight confirmed; Kazakh boxer set to battle Kell Brook

Gennady Golovkin of Kazakhstan knocks down Dominc Wade for the second time on way to a second round TKO during his unified middleweight title fight at The Forum on April 23, 2016 in Inglewood, California.

Kazakh boxer Gennady Golovkin next opponent will be Kell Brook as the negotiations with Chris Eubank Jr., Billie Joe Saunders and Carl Froch did not come to fruition.

Four months removed from his last fight, Golovkin is now looking to improve his unblemished record to 36-0. His last fight came by way of knockout against Dominic Wade and he was able to retain his WBA, IBF, IBO and WBC middleweight titles.

It appears that Eubank almost landed the slot but his willingness to fight the undefeated boxer seemed to be the biggest hurdle. Now, Brooks will be Golovkin's opponent on Sept. 10 at the O2 Arena in London.

"This is the fight and the moment I have been waiting for for some time," Brook told Sky Sports. "We've tried and tried to lure the best to come and fight me and now we've got the best of the best -- the No. 1 fighter in the world is coming to the UK."

Brook further added that he accepted the offer without hesitation as he is confident with his skills and will be a tough match-up for GGG. He is a huge welterweight and believes his speed and accuracy will translate to this weight class.

It is not yet determined if the fight will be a title match but Golovkin said that he is more than willing to put his belts on the line against any opponents. He also said that they were really leaning towards landing a fight with either Saunders or Froch.

"GGG has made it clear that he would come to the UK to fight, just like he would have with Froch and Saunders, except those fights couldn't get made unfortunately," Promoter Tom Loeffler told Boxing News. "Hopefully Eubank has more desire than those two, as he states in his public comments."

Both fighters are in the same boat as the biggest matches in their respective careers have been halted multiple times. Golovkin is supposed to be battling Canelo Alvarez while Brook was looking forward to battling Floyd Mayweather Jr., who is now retired. Here are some highlights of Golovkin's previous fights.
