iOS 10 Jailbreak Release Not Happening Soon but Rollout of Pangu iOS 9.3.2 Remains Likely?

There were ongoing rumors that Pangu plans to release a jailbreak for Apple’s iOS 9.3.2 or 9.3.3; however, this information seems unlikely.

Rumors that hit the jailbreak community in the past days suggested that the modified versions of iOS 10 and iOS 9.3.2 could be coming out soon as Chinese hacking team Pangu showcased the progress of its works so far. Cydia was seen running on iOS 10 while reports emerge that by early July the release date for iOS 9.3.2 jailbreak is likely to happen.

But as pointed out by Forbes in a report, the 9.3.2 jailbreak becoming public so soon is but a rumor, the publication pointing to a statement from the organizer of the MOSEC (Mobile Security Conference) 2016, the same security conference in Shanghai, China where Cydia was seen installed on iOS 10. And as it turned out, the Forbes report was spot on - to date, the supposedly finalized iOS 9.3.2 JB tool remains out of sight.

And there is no word from Pangu if the wait will continue for a few more weeks or even months.

Meanwhile, the hope that iOS 10 jailbreak could outpace 9.3.2, initially buoyed by Pangu showing off the Cydia icon on iOS 10 interface, appears to have been dashed. According to Phone Arena, the window of opportunity first detected by Pangu in iOS 10 beta one was closed down when beta two of the software was released.

"The exploits that allowed for easy entry into the first dev beta have been patched by Apple's software engineers and are reportedly nowhere to be seen in the just-released iOS 10 public beta/dev beta 2," the report said.

While Pangu will certainly restart its work on iOS 10, and the likelihood of stumbling into possible new exploits will be always there, reality dictates that a jailbreak release happening so soon will be unlikely. The usual routine for developers would be - wait out for the OS official release, poke around it and then identify the entry points to hack their way in.

But even in the case of a successful hack, a jailbreak tool will not be immediately provided as Pangu knows that Apple is always ready to plug the iOS holes that could lead to a jailbreak. So it makes sense that iOS 10.1 will come out first then the first working and untethered jailbreak of the iOS series will be made public.

"In the earliest, we can expect a working jailbreak after iOS becomes official in the fall," Phone Arena said. And that would be for iOS 9.3.2 since by the time that iOS 10 is ready to roll its predecessor is mostly finalized, which is a stage that for hackers is ripe for jailbreak work.

As for iOS 10 jailbreak, jailbreaking history - from Evad3rs to TaiG then Pangu - indicates that the unlocked version will not arrive until after a few months. If September 2016 is the touchdown time then iOS 10 JB tool can only be expected in December or early 2017.
