President and CEO of Sony Mobile Communication Hiroki Totoki presents the new Sony Xperia X device on the opening day of the World Mobile Congress at the Fira Gran Via Complex on Feb. 22, 2016 in Barcelona, Spain.

If the latest rumors doing the rounds online are to be true, Sony will launch its next flagship handset in the latter half of this year. These rumors hint at the Japanese OEM's possibility of unveiling a new Xperia flagship device, or may be more than one, at the IFA in September.

As of now there is very few detail regarding the next flagship device of Sony. However, latest reports indicate that the Japanese OEM is likely to unveil a next Xperia model, codenamed Sony F8331 (F833X). Of late, the benchmarking site GFXBench has posted some details of the upcoming smartphone from Sony.

Since the specs and features of the handset posted on the benchmarking site are higher compared to the Xperia X Performance (F813X), it is assumed that the smartphone will come with enhanced specs. The post suggests that the purported flagship device will come with a 5.1-inch display rendering 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution.

The upcoming Sony handset is also expected to be powered by a Snapdragon 820 chipset, in addition to having 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage. As far as the cameras of the handset are concerned, the main rear shooter will be a 23-megapixel camera, while the front-facing snapper will be 13-megapixels.

In case these specs turn out to be true, it will be interesting to note the difference between the upcoming handset and the Xperia X Performance. It is likely that Sony fans will get to see a departure from the 5-inch display size of the X Performance or see an altogether new design, according to Xperia Blog.

Aside from the models Sony F8331 (F833X), another model codenamed F8332 have also been seen on UAProf links. Hence, it is believed that Sony may unveil more than one variant of the upcoming handset. However, it would be interesting to know how the device will differ from Xperia X Performance as the specs appear to be very close to that of the latter.

As of now, Sony has not made any official announcement regarding the launch of its new flagship smartphone. So, the specs mentioned in the benchmarking website may be taken with a pinch of salt,
