Android app Beta testing expanding in Google Play

Google is planning their own independent Android game festival to help promote the work of small time developers and publishers.

Those who are aspiring game developers can also try to join the event to get more people to download their game or to possibly get them hired in larger studios. Google will be hosting the Indie Games Festival event in San Francisco on September 24.

Since it would still take several months before the event itself, developers now have more time to start developing their games or to tweak them even more. The search engine giant said that there will be prizes at stake for the best indie Android game developers, PC Magazine has learned.

"This is a great opportunity for you to showcase your indie title to the public, increase your network, and compete to win great prizes," Google said in their announcement for the Indie Games Festival.

The prizes would include a Google ad campaign support for the indie game, free tickets for the upcoming Google I/O 2017 event and several Tango devices. People who want to attend the event won't have to pay anything and they will also be able to play all of the displayed indie games.

Developers who already have finished their indie game can now submit it for consideration in the upcoming Google Play Indie Games Festival, Engadget reported. The search engine giant is expected to highlight 30 of the indie games that will be chosen.

Google Play Games lead Jamil Moledina said that they want to support more of the indie games community. In addition, the platform is home to more than 65 billion apps and games that have been developed by both large studios and independent developers over the past few years.

Indie developers often have the problem of shining a spotlight on their work because they often have no money for marketing the game. Uploading their game on the Google Play store is not a guarantee that it will be a hit.

The criteria for choosing the 30 indie Android games and the top submissions have not yet been detailed. Moledina said that they should be both fun to play and innovative at the same time.
