"Batman: The Telltale Series" will be making its worldwide digital debut in August before coming to retail on Sept. 13.

Warner Bros. and Telltale Games announced on Friday (July 15) that the first episode of the upcoming "Batman: A Telltale Game Series" will be available for download in August before being released physically on Sept. 13.

The retail version of the episodic video game will be known as the "Season Pass Disc" and will include only the first of five episodes that form the introductory season of the Telltale title, according to Telltale's official blog.

Gamers who purchase the retail copy of the game will have access to download the remaining four episodes when they are released digitally. The Season Pass Disc will retail at $29.99 when it launches in the United States before it is made available for purchase in Europe on Sept. 16.

This move has come as a surprise to many as Telltale, which has been behind popular titles including "The Walking Dead" and "Game of Thrones," is known to make its games available on retail, but only after releasing an entire episodic season.

The video game, which is a narrative take on Bruce Wayne and his alter ego Batman, will make its digital debut on Android, iOS, PS4, PS3, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC/Mac. We do not know when exactly the game will be available for download in August but what we do know is that the first chapter will cost $4.99 and the season pass will be priced at $24.99, Polygon reported.

"Batman: The Telltale Series" official digital release date as well as its world premiere trailer will be unveiled at the San Diego Comic-Con next week.

Fans attending the expo will also be treated to a sneak peek of the game's first episode on a huge screen at a special crowd play event on Saturday, July 23. The event will be hosted by Greg Miller and include an appearance from Troy Baker, who has voiced Bruce Wayne in the game.
