In a recent press screening of "Star Trek Beyond," Indonesian actor Joe Taslim had the chance to share his experience with the film, director Justin Lin and co-star Idris Alba. He revealed he wore prosthetic makeup that was up to eight layers in the film. The makeup was pasted onto his face and because of that, he had difficulty breathing at times.

Taslim likewise wore a costume up to his head, which weighed eight kilos, making him sweat during the fighting scenes. He shared his experience in the movie after the film's press screening on July 18, Monday. The actor had already worked with director Justin Lin in "Fast and Furious 6."

"It was a humble offer [by director Justin Lin]," Taslim told The Jakarta Post. "It's my future goal to bring Indonesia[n] [actors] to more blockbuster movies."

The Indonesian actor and martial artist shared Lin called him while he was taking classes in the United States, saying there was a role that suited him. Despite all the prosthetics and warm costumes he had to wear during the three-month filming in a summer season, Taslim told the Indonesian online newspaper he was very grateful for the opportunity to experience it.

The 35-year-old also talked about working with the famous actor Idris Elba, who plays Krall. Taslim praised Elba for helping and giving him inputs, saying the Krall actor was very serious during filming. As acting was taken seriously on the set, no one would disturb him and Elba even during standby period lest they may distract their concentration.

Taslim often brings his wife and kids to travel with him. He laughed when asked about his daughter's reaction to his role, saying his daughter who is fond of superhero films loves it. However, the actor was keen not to disclose his role during filming or she may tell her friends.

Taslim plays Manas in the third reboot of the popular sci-fi series under Paramount Pictures. Upon his casting last year, his role is the opposite of that of Elba, who is the film's villain, IGN reported.

The Asian actor played a bad guy in "Fast and Furious 6" and a police officer in "The Raid." "Star Trek Beyond" also stars Chris Pine, John Cho, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Zachary Quinto and the late Anton Yelchin.
