Cast of ‘Summer’s Desire’ Spend 40 Days in Taiwan to Bring Them Closer to Roles in Romantic Film

Romantic movies still hold a special place in the hearts of Chinese moviegoers. Proof of this is “Summer’s Desire,” which opened on July 21 with a box office earning of 5.2 million yuan or $778,617.

A coming-to-age romance, the movie stars Huang Chanchan, Hong Kong actor Law Chung-hum and Chinese-Canadian star Jerry Yan. China Daily reported that the film beat another Chinese movie, “Never Gone,” which features top-caliber Chinese actors such as Liu Yifei and Kris Wu.

According to Avirtualvoyage, Huang plays Yin Xia Mo, Law Chung-hum plays Ou Chen and Jerry Yan plays Luo Xi.

“Summer’s Desire,” covers a decade to tell the story of the heartbreaking romances of the main character with a business tycoon and a megastar. It features the lifestyle of the rich and famous such as the tycoon’s use of private plane to go to school and his giving a yacht as a present.

Ming Xiaoxi, a pop novelist, wrote the story which was first published in 2006 and became immediately an online sensation. So far, 1 million copies of the novel has been sold.

Lai Chun-yu, the movie’s director, said the sets they used were much different from regular movies. To bring the actors closer to their roles, majority of the cast spent 40 days training in Taiwan, said Huang Chanchan, considered the prettiest woman in Wuhan University. “Summer’s Desire” is her second film.
