Dwayne Johnson voices Maui in the upcoming Disney film "Moana."

Moana is among the colorful characters of Disney classics created by directors John Musker and Ron Clements. Voiced by Auli'I Cravalho, she interacts with different personalities in "Moana," some are friendly and some are not.

Set in the South Pacific 2,000 years earlier, "Moana" is about a 16-year-old girl who recruited banished demigod and her travel buddy Maui (voiced by Dwayne Johnson) which is a part of the plan to save the world. Johnson will sing a song which was composed for him by Tony-award winning writer of Broadway's "Hamilton," Lin-Manuel Miranda.

While Disney female characters were crafted as princesses in fairy tale mold, Moana may not have a love interest at all. Musker and Clements revealed it straight from the film's panel at Comic Con 2016. The heroine is on a quest to find herself, not a man, Slash Film reported.

Moana meets various characters in her quest to save her people. One of whom is her Gramma Tala (voiced by Rachel House) who shares her passion for the ocean.

Tala is a kind of a crazy lady who recognizes the bigger problems that face by their people. Hence, she propels Moana to solve things out, according to USA Today.

Moana's father Chief Tui (Temuera Morrison) is overprotective and does not understand her need to sail the Seven Seas. As the leader of Motunui Island, he sees bad things happening and wants everyone to stay inside to be safe. Meanwhile, Moana's mom Sina (Nicole Scherzinger) is warm, supportive and sympathetic of her daughter.

There is also the witted rooster Heihei (Alan Tudyk) who is more stupid than most chickens. He tags along on Moana while a cute little pig Pua who does not have a voice, is Moana's constant companion and best friend. Others think that Moana's intention to go into the ocean is crazy but Pua joins her everywhere.

Moana has enemies, some of those are coconut monsters, called Kakamora. When Moana and Maui started their voyage together and one of their first challenges were the Kakamora who are cute but menacing when they are in groups.

A hilarious villain 500-foot crab from the kingdom of monsters, Tamatoa (Jemaine Clement) has a history with Maui. Tamatoa has Maui's valuable fish hook that the latter wants to get back so desperately.

"Moana" will be in theaters on Nov. 23. The news followed the international trailer that showcases the lead character's relationship with the ocean.
