Actor Tom Fitzpatrick dressed as the Bride In Black attends the after party for the premiere of Focus Features' 'Insidious: Chapter 3' at the Emerson Theater on June 4, 2015 in Hollywood, California.

Joshua Regnall "Josh" Stewart, who starred as Barsad in Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight Rises" (2012), will be part of the cast of "Insidious: Chapter 4." Details of his role are being kept under wraps for now.

The 39-year-old actor will join previously announced actress Lin Shaye, who will be reprising the role of parapsychologist, Elise Rainer. "The Taking of Deborah Logan" director Adam Robitel will direct the eagerly anticipated based on a script written by franchise co-creator, Leigh Whannel.

The upcoming film will be produced by Oren Peli, Jason Blum, and co-creator James Wan, while Charles Layton, Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, and Steven Schneider will serve as executive producers. Sony will handle its international distribution, while Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions is financing the film, The Wrap reported.

While nothing has been officially set in stone yet, it has been learned that "Insidious: Chapter 4's" plot will be another scaffold story between the third and first installment in the timeline. In an interview with We Got This Covered, Whannel said that the story may occur at some point after the chilling events of the third installment, but before Elise Rainier came into contact with the Lambert family in the first "Insidious" film (2011).

"I'd like to explore the time between this film and the first film," Whannel revealed. "That whole area there where Elise has rediscovered her gift, I think you could have a lot of adventures before she arrives. So I think there is a lot of room there."

Set a couple of years before the events of the first film, "Insidious: Chapter 3" follows a retired parapsychologist, Elise Rainer (Shaye), who is in a rut after her husband Jack Rainer (Adrian Sparkles) died. Billed as the franchise's darkest installment, the film grossed $113 million against a reported budget of $10 million.

"Insidious: Chapter 4" is scheduled for release in theaters on Oct. 20, 2017. More details about the project will be revealed soon. While waiting, check out "Insidious: Chapter 3" below:
