A live streamed video of a Georgia woman beating her daughter on Facebook went viral on Wednesday.

NBC reported that the five-minute live stream was preceded by the teen daughter posting provocative photos on her Facebook page which displeased and angered the mother.

Syracuse.com identified the two as Shavania Miller and daughter Nia Green who was punished for her racy photos on Facebook. In one photo, Nia is seen wearing only a towel while next to her boyfriend which angered Shavania.

The video, deliberately broadcast by Shavania to shame her daughter, started with the mother hitting Nia with a ruler. Later, she dropped the ruler and used her fists to “discipline” Nia. Even if the girl was crying and not fighting back, instead pleading with Shavania to stop, the very angry woman continue to physically and verbally abuse her daughter.

Since the incident was broadcast, Georgia Police turned over to child welfare authorities a copy of the five-minute video.

The report said that Shavania later posted that she loves her daughter with all her heart but she would not tolerate the teen disrespecting her. According to Savannah Police, Nia said she still feels safe at home despite the beating incident.

Darnisha Green, spokeswoman for the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department, said several people reported the video to the police and sought Shavania’s arrest over the weekend. Green said their special victims unit had looked into the case and talked to the mother and daughter.

In a post on Sunday, Nia wrote, “First Off I Shouldnt Embarrassed My Moma , I Love Her . Yes this is me . Niaaa . I Shouldnt even been doing what i did. No i didnt have vari in my house when she said not to . I was at his house . Im only 16 yrs old . I was gonna open up and tell her that i was having sex .
