The United States Vice President Joe Biden hopes to voice his concern about sexual violence against women. One of the upcoming episodes of the hit series "Law and Order: Special Victims Unit" will convey his message pertaining to the issue.
Biden is scheduled to tape the episode of long-running NBC series in New York on Aug. 5, Friday, the White House website revealed. The White House also said in a statement that his appearance on the episode will highlight the growing backlog of untested rape kits, and will focus on efforts that can end violence against women.
This aspect of Biden's record was also shown in his biographical video which was screened before his appearance last week at Democratic National Convention. Law and Order: SVU, lead actress Mariska Hargitay narrated the video. This is not the first time Biden has partnered with Hargitay to highlight and spread awareness about similar issues. Hargitay -- who plays the role of Lieutenant Olivia Benson on the show -- along with Biden had toured a facility in New York that tests rape kits this fall. In 2014, Biden recorded public service announcements in which he urged for support to end sexual violence. The announcement was shown during commercial breaks of a marathon series of "Law and Order: SVU".
According to the federal government, due to lack of resources and funding hundreds of thousands of rape kits remain untested and thus, await processing.
73-year-old Biden, for many years, has been fighting to end sexual violence against women. He is accredited for introducing the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) as a senator to Congress in 1990. His appearance is expected to be aired in the 18th season of the show, which premieres on September 21.
Last week's address of Biden was probably last major political address of his career. The address was given in Philadelphia at the Democratic National Convention where he skewered Trump and endorsed Democrat Hillary Clinton.
Following Donald Trump declaration, where called himself the "law and order"candidate, Biden openly laughed at him last week when he appeared on ABC.
Biden said, "How can there be pleasure in saying you're fired?' Is he trying to tell us he cares about the middle class? Give me a break!" CNN reported.
"This guy doesn't have a clue about the middle class," Biden said, "Not a clue. He has no clue about what makes America Great. Actually, he has no clue. Period."
