Electronic Arts believe that the Xbox Project Scorpio and the PlayStation Neo will be the beginning of constant hardware upgrades for the console gaming industry and that they are optimistic about the outcome.

PC gamers are constantly upgrading their systems to the newest video card such as the new NVIDIA Pascal Titan X or the GTX 1080. All of the components of their gaming rigs are often replaced every year or so to keep up with the new AAA games that require more powerful hardware.

Consoles such as the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One are always left behind with their games downgraded in terms of graphics quality so that they will still be able to run. EA executives have said that the Xbox Project Scorpio from Microsoft and the PlayStation Neo from Sony will be the start of the hardware upgrades in the middle of the consoles' life cycles, Daily Star has learned.

EA CEO Andrew Wilson said that they are excited with the PlayStation Neo and the Xbox Project Scorpio. Both of the consoles will help in the problems with the hardware refresh cycle going faster than the software refresh cycle.

Wilson also added that the hardware upgrades of the Xbox Project Scorpio and the PlayStation Neo will be great for the industry and extend the console cycles to "almost an infinite level," Gamepur reported. However, both Sony and Microsoft have previously said that their new consoles do not mean that they will be constantly upgrading their devices.

In addition, constant hardware upgrades in the console gaming industry does not seem to be the best course of action for the consumers. The value of consoles would decline much faster compared to the current market now.

Constant hardware upgrades would also basically make the PlayStation Neo and Xbox Project Scorpio consoles in the future similar to PCs. The latter would still have the advantage considering that users have more freedom with the parts and they are not just locked into two or three brands.

Sony is expected to launch the PlayStation Neo this fall while Microsoft plans to launch the Xbox Project Scorpio in 2017. EA's views might be a little too optimistic for the console gaming industry but it could still be possible.
