Judo - Olympics: Day 2

The webtoon drama “W” has been on a roll since it was launched, beating competitors “Doctors” and "Uncontrollably Fond” with 13.5 percent rating last week, according to Nielsen Korea.

Using Nielsen’s Content Power Index (CPI), on the first week that “W” aired, the webtoon got 273.3 points to grab top spot, followed by “Doctor” with 266.4 points and “Uncontrollably Fond” with 242.4 points.

However, AllKpop reported that Episodes 7 and 8 scheduled to air on Aug. 10 and 11 may possibly be temporarily cancelled because MBC coverage of the Rio 2016 Olympics could eat up the air time of “W” which is scheduled at 10 PM KST.

Concerned fans of the webtoon have expressed their fear of waiting one more week before they view the two episodes on Wednesday and Thursday. But MBC did not rule out the possibility that “W” could also air normally on its regular timeslot, reported Asia Times.

Similar to “Descendants of the Sun” which enjoyed huge success just weeks when it aired in early February over KBS 2TV in South Korea and iQiyi in China, the producers of “W” plans to hold fan meets to celebrate the success of the webtoon. However, for sure, the show could now no longer do fan meets in China because of the ban on such activities imposed by Beijing on Kpop celebrities.

While the Olympics may disrupt the viewing habits of Hallyu fans, South Korean athletes are actually doing the country proud by winning medals. On the first day of competition on Friday, Kim Woo-jin got a 700 score in the 72-arrow ranking round and set a record. He broke the London 2012 record of 699 set by another South Korean archer, Im Dong-Hyun.
