Selena Gomez called out ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber on social media for threatening fans to make Instagram account private after receiving a string of negative comments aimed at rumored girlfriend Sofia Richie.

The "What Do You Mean?" hitmaker and the 17-year-old model have been spending a lot of time lately and have also been featuring on each other's Instagram account over the last few days. The rumored couple is currently in Japan together, fueling speculation that they are dating, according to US Weekly.

After sharing a series of pictures of himself and his new ladylove on Instagram, the 22-year-old singer started receiving a lot of hate directed towards Richie and it reached a point where Bieber had to tell his Beliebers to back off a little.

"I'm gonna make my Instagram private if you guys don't stop the hate," he wrote alongside a black-and-white photo of himself and Richie. This is getting out of hand, if you guys are really fans you wouldn't be so mean to people that I like."

Gomez later responded to her ex's post with some advice. In a comment screengrabbed by The Shade Room, the actress/singer told Biebs to stop posting photos of his girlfriend if he could not deal with the hate.

"If you can't handle the hate then stop posting pictures of your girlfriend lol - it should be special between you two only," Gomez commented. "Don't be mad at your fans. They love you."

Shortly after posting the comment, the actress/singer shared a photo collage of herself interacting with her fans on Instagram. In her caption, Gomez emphasized the importance of her fans and and expressed her gratitude to them for giving her the opportunity to do what she loves every single day, E! News reported.

Bieber reportedly fired back at Gomez with a couple of comments of his own, according to a screenshot taken by a Gomez fan. "It's funny to see people that used me for attention and still try to point the finger this way. Sad. All love," JB said in his first comment, before asking his fans to respect his friends and expressing his love for his "Beliebers."

Gomez is not the only ex who does not seem too happy with Bieber’s new relationship.
