Pokemon Uranium is now free to download for PC users

Pokémon GO might have taken the world by storm but it only yielded bandwagonners and social media climbers. Enter Pokémon Uranium, a fan-made game that includes everything a true Pokémon fan can appreciate.

There have been over 1.5 million downloads for Pokémon Uranium until Nintendo demanded for it to be taken down. Sadly, the developers of the game have complied and the official download links are already removed from their website.

Pokémon Uranium was made for almost a decade by loyal Pokémon fan developers using the RPGMaker for the PC. Unfortunately, there are no plans yet to bring the game to mobile platforms even to the widely-used Android and iOS.

The game follows the original game-mechanics of Pokémon Ruby, Fire Red and the many GBA plus Nintendo DS titles wherein the player travels a whole region to collect Pokémon and compete to be the champion. Pokémon Uranium is completely built from the ground up including more than 100 new monsters and the new Tandor region, Kotaku has learned.

One good thing about Pokémon Uranium is that battles are made to be more tactical compared to the original Nintendo games. Players can have their starter Pokémon faint without even reaching the first gym or next town.

Pokémon veterans can also try Uranium's built-in Nuzlocke mode which raises the difficulty even further. For those who are unfamiliar with the mode, it is voluntary implemented by players in the past to make their gaming experience harder.

In Pokémon Uranium, there are two core rules for the Nuzlocke mode which can be turned on at the start of the game. Once a Pokémon faints in battle, it dies and cannot be used again. The second rule is that only the first Pokémon encountered in each area can be caught by the player.

Nintendo has sent several takedown notices to the Pokémon Uranium developers, Comicbook reported. They have since removed the download links but the game is very much alive in other parts of the web (Hint: Reddit).

Interested PC gamers can still try to find out how to download Pokémon Uranium. The developers have confirmed that they will continue to update the game through the game patcher included in the downloaded files for free.
