Android 7.0 Nougat: Huawei P9, Mate 8 to get update in Jan 2017; What about P9 lite, P9 Plus, others?

China is starting to shed its reputation as the factory of the world. Since it is one of the two nations with populations exceeding 1 billion people, India could be the likely successor to that title.

Huawei, the third-largest smartphone brand in the world, would soon have its phones manufactured in India, reported CNET. The Chinese phone giant wants to take advantage of the Make in India program that offers tax incentives to foreign firms which would produce goods in India, said Peter Zhai, president of Huawei India Consumer Business Group on Thursday.

The phone giant would be aggressive in India because “As an international brand, we are interested in developing our India business at the right time. It is going to be the second largest mobile devices market after China,” said Zhai.

To mark Huawei’s formal entry in India, the company unveiled its Huawei P9 smartphone in India on Wednesday as well as a new version of Huawei watch, a variant with a metal watch, according to Android Headlines.

Other technology firms which have taken advantage of India’s tax incentives are Xiaomi and Apple. The Cupertino-based giant opened a software design and development accelerator in Bengaluru and a mapping research center in Hyderabad.

There are already a few thousand Huawei stores across India which the company targets to increase to 50,000 stores by the end of 2016.
