“Avatar” is a 2009 American epic science fiction film directed, written, produced, and co-edited by James Cameron, and starring Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang, Michelle Rodriguez, and Sigourney Weaver.

After the confirmation that a sequel for the film "Avatar" would happen, director James Cameron is still mum about the upcoming film's details.

Movie News Guide reported that what they know so far is that Cameron is planning to do some cast rearrangement in the upcoming "Avatar 2." It is stated that the spotlight would not focus on Sam Worthington's character Jake and Zoe Saldana's character Neytiri, but the story would shift its focus to the resurrected character of Stephen Lang, known as Miles Quaritch.

"Avatar 2" would dig deeper into Mile Quaritch's past and his history with the Navi people. A lot of speculations claim that the upcoming sequel would serve as an explanation on what Quaritch went through with the Navi people, how he obtained his scars and what made him hate them so much.

During an interview with Lang, he stated that he's been in talks with Cameron about the resurrection of his character, although it still came as a surprise for him. The idea that Quaritch would still be a part of "Avatar 2" started after the release of the first film, and because most of them are still in the midst of celebrating for the movie's success, he didn't take the idea that seriously. Lang also stated that he would like to focus more on reprising his role as Quaritch and is willing to prioritize it more than his role as Cable in "Deadpool 2," which will start with its production soon.

In other news, rumors suggest that Cameron feels pressured in creating a sequel for "Avatar," which is one of the most successful films that has ever been created.

However, Master Herald reported that those rumors are completely false, as Cameron has stated before that he might have over written the script for "Avatar 2" that's why he's planning to do 2 more instalments after the sequel's release.

It is also reported that the director sees "Star Wars: Episode 8" as a competition that's why he decided to postpone the release of "Avatar 2." He clarified though that it is not because he's not confident enough to go against with "Star Wars," but because he wants fans to not feel obligated to choose sides and compare both iconic films.

Fans are actually nervous on how the director would be able to surpass the greatness of the first "Avatar" film. A lot of them fear that "Avatar 2" might end up like all other sequels that plummeted because it didn't surpass the audience' expectations.
