2NE1 CL music video "Lifted" has been the talk of the town since the Korean singer debuted her new American single on Friday, Aug. 19. However, it has gained mixed reactions from fans where critics voiced their disappointed over the music clip.
The 2NE1 group member's new music video for "Lifted" featured various scenes where CL walked the streets of New York City while dancing and partying with the crowd. Some scenes have shown the Korean singer enjoying a street dance with hip-hop groups in colorful outfits while holding a brown bag that appears to contain a large bottle of beer. Other celebrities and musicians such as Method Man and teenage fashionista Luka Sabbat also appeared in the said video.
CL's "Lifted" has received several feedbacks where fans praised the musician for incorporating African American vibes into the music clip. However, some critics expressed their disappointment over claims of culture misappropriation, Officially Kmusic reported. It appears that some fans were expecting to see usual Kpop elements in CL's music video.
Some fans may have been taken by surprise since the song "Lifted" contained lyrics that mentioned drinking, drugs and sex. The video also featured scenes where CL displayed her seductive and sexy side. The Korean singer's loyal followers may have been looking for the music styles and concepts similar to that of CL's South Korean group, 2NE1.
Meanwhile, YG Entertainment's Yang Hyun Suk has expressed his excitement over CL's solo debut in the U.S. In a previous interview, the YG executive commented that he will continue to show his support over the 2NE1 singer's debut in the American music scene, Soompi reported. He also made mention of CL's "cool and powerful" image.
Yang continued that many people have been looking forward to CL's American debut. Some of the expectations include a hit song that will enter the U.S. music charts. However, the YG executive shared a discussion he had with CL where they both agreed not to focus on chart performance and other statistics at the start of her American music career. "I just want her music and art to be acknowledged by outsiders as well as fans," he added.
CL's "Lifted" will be one of the tracks featured in the Korean singer's upcoming solo album. The 2NE1 group member's U.S. career is being handled by Scooter Braun, who also manages famous Hollywood musicians such as Justin Bieber and more.
