WWE SummerSlam 2016: Brock Lesnar sends strong message to Conor McGregor

| Aug 22, 2016 12:32 PM EDT

Brock Lesnar enters the ring for his match at WWE SummerSlam 2015.

There is a reason why Brock Lesnar is called the “Beast Incarnate” and all that was in full display at the Barclays Center when he busted open Randy Orton in what could be a message directed at UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor.

WWE SummerSlam 2016 is over and done with though only some matches were worth hailing. Among the matches that stood out included the one between AJ Styles and John Cena, Finn Balor vs. Seth Rollins and the main event pitting Brock Lesnar and Randy Orton.

Styles came out with the win as expected over the Cenation leader who is expected to take some time off. Cena will be busy filming for “American Grit” season 2 and the outcome hardly comes as a surprise, Bleacher Report reported.

Finn Balor proved to everyone why he was being groomed to be the new face, showing up Seth Rollins. It was one of the best matches of the evening which the “Demon King” eventually won with his patented finisher, WWE.com reported.

Nikki Bella finally returned, taking over from Eva Marie who was suspended by the WWE. Making her return sweeter was her match-deciding pin on Alexa Bliss.

The main event was physical as expected with Lesnar winning via TKO, WWE.com reported. The “Beast Incarnate” went ballistic, miffed at the fight Orton brought to the match. He hit his usual suplexes as the fans counted but it was the “Viper’s” resiliency that frustrated Lesnar at times.

Lesnar eventually had enough, opting to take out the gloves and use his UFC moves to bust Orton open. He left the “Apex Predator” a bloody mess in what was one of the disturbing highlights of WWE SummerSlam. For good measure, he even gave Shane McMahon an F5 when the SmackDown general manager tried to check on the status of Orton.

Was Lesnar ticked off by Orton or sending a strong message to Conor McGregor? Prior to SummerSlam, Lesnar issued an open challenge to “The Notorious” who had some choice words for the “Beast” and the WWE roster. It will be interesting if McGregor takes a swipe at Lesnar in the coming days.

There were other matches such as the Dean Ambrose vs. Dolph Ziggler setto. The match needed to create something to gain attention but offered nothing more than taunts and action that were nothing out of the ordinary. Ambrose won the match as expected.

The other pairing involving Roman Reigns and Rusev never really got underway as both started to rumble even before the opening bell could be rung. It ended in a no-contest with Rusev reportedly injured.

The coming regular shows are expected to produce new storylines, including more brand-related conflicts thanks to the actions of Lesnar.

Check out how Lesnar got his TKO win over Orton in the video below.
